The origin of the term "bracelet" is from the Latin "brachile" meaning "of the arm," from the Old French "barcel."

There is a long archaeological history of cuff and bracelet ornamentation, extending from several thousand years B.C. to present time. Early Assyrian kings displayed a characteristic simple bracelet similar to one of Mayan design and Cleopatra also wore cuff bracelets.

In general only Mayan kings were permitted cuff bracelet ornamentation which is only one of at least a dozen rank indicators, (including crown, breast plate, belt, necklace, wrist and ankle cuffs, sandals, nose and lip ornaments, pectorals, etc.).

Today, bracelets are worn by both men and women in a variety of materials such as traditional precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum.
