Sterling Silver Celtic Sun God Ring

The worship of the Sun-god was universal in the ancient world. It ranged from China and India to Yucatan and Peru. The Emperor and the Mikado, as well as the Incas, and the Pharaohs were Sun-god figures.

In Ireland the god Lugh was worshiped as a deity of the sun. This connection with the sun explains his name (it means "shining one"), and may also account for the attributes that he displayed: he was handsome, perpetually youthful, and had a tremendous energy and vitality.

He was the patron God of craftspeople, musicians, magicians, healers and warriors. The first of three harvest Sabbats of the year, is called Lughnasadh, after this Celtic God. Although the Sabbat is named for Lugh, the festival was actually in honor of his foster-mother (Tailtiu). If she were not remembered each year, Lugh would ravage the countryside and decimate the crops.
