The earliest symbol used to represent Druidism is the Awen which means "inspiration" in the Celtic language. In Welsh history it was used to describe the divine inspiration of the bards. The Awen symbol is still used today to invoke the muses of poetry and music.
In its entirety the Awen signifies the descending form of light, (the Three Rays of Light), the Three Pillars of Wisdom and the three drops of inspiration from the cauldron of Cerridwen, a Welsh Goddess. Individually, the left ray represents man or male energy; the right ray represents woman or female energy and the middle ray represents their harmonious balance.
During a Druid ritual, the Awen is intoned as mantra using the three syllables "Ah-oo-en" in order to draw the blessing of the Goddess or initiate poetic inspiration.
We hope that our Celtic Awen Earrings will help inspire your muse.
